Jetpack for Learning Design Challenge
by Sdkaaa on Oct.27, 2009, under Education, ICT
Sponsored by the Mozilla Foundation with support from the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation, Mozilla Labs launches a new Challenge: Jetpack for Learning Design Challenge.
“Jetpack allows you to write Firefox add-ons using the web technologies you already know.”
Based on this Firefox add-on (Install Jetpack here) , anyone with basic website building knowledge will be able to enhance his web experience the way he always wanted.
Mozilla Labs also presented some guiding principles and an Introduction and tutorial by Aza Raskin on Vimeo:
You can find a very useful tutorial and code samples here and the Mozilla Labs Jetpack discussion on google groups too.
“We are looking for designers, educators, and software developers who want to use Jetpack (or other Firefox add-on technologies) to unlock new opportunities for digital learning.”
What you can do is to test drive Jetpack for your own needs or even join the Challenge and submit your idea (which sounds very interesting)
Follow Jetpack on twitter: @jet4learning with hashtag #jet4learning (Live dashboard on tweetgrid.com )
At the end, i would like to see some educators using Jetpack, and i will try it my self in the next coming days. Meanwhile we can spread the word and push forward the one tool that can help evolve the world: Education.
Too alive to be dead

Some people are too tiered to be alive,
Some people are too alive to be tiered,
Some people are too dead to be alive,
Some people are too alive to be dead.

People would say that the truth hurts; I prefer to say:

ICTs Bless and Doom?
by Sdkaaa on Oct.12, 2009, under ICT
During the current ITU Telecom WORLD #TCW09, Nelson Mandela stated that ICTs are the single most powerful tool we have for human progress.
We couldn’t agree more, and, in fact, this goes along with our philosophy “Evolve to Help”
What could be done in the world couldn’t have been without ICTs, starting from the smallest calculator, to the biggest supercomputer, passing by the Internet and all the services around it.
In an earlier statement, the ITU Secretary General Dr Hamadoun Touré said that “One can easily guess that the next world war will be in cyberspace, and we have to avoid that.” So it is quite a dilemma, how can we promote ICTs for good, progress and development while knowing it’s consequences? “Every citizen on this planet is a potential superpower and, it will be unfortunate if we have to fight the next fight in the cyber space” Touré said.
It is quite sure at the end that ICTs are a bless, but how will it doom us if we don’t take appropriate measures? This is a call to push ICTs further and make it more affordable and secure.
If we are to evolve, we are to help not destroy.
