Personal IGF Preparations #IGF #IGF09

by Sdkaaa on Nov.12, 2009, under Internet Governance

As I started to pack my bags for the Internet Governance Forum 2009 in Sharm ElSheikh this Sunday, I also started to prepare my mind for this event. So i started asking myself few questions i normally ask myself before starting anything:

  1. Why am I going there?
  2. What are my goals?
  3. How can I achieve them?
  4. What will I bring back with me?
  5. Who will I meet?
  6. What are my Interests?
  7. What workshops will I attend? (Choose from the list here)
  8. Are there any reading i should be doing? (Main Session Programme, Workshops schedule, Comments on the mandate of the IGF, )
  9. What para-igf activities will i take part of?
  10. Will I be blogging at that time? How about twittering? facebooking?

I have worked with the IGF for three months and physically attended February open consultations, but I can say this is the first IGF I actually take part of. Most people attending won’t be their first time. But for newbies like me these questions could help, and additional questions and answers from commentators too.

Retweets from people you follow appear in your timeline

Twitter is currently giving Beta access for twitterers for the retweet option:

What is also remarkable about this new beta version is that Retweets from people you follow appear in your timeline:

Twitter explains it:

Also mark the “Handy icon for spotting a retweet” :) .

Maybe these options are old to some people by now, but they are new to me; I also like the new automatic update of tweets count, which also shows in the title (on the top of the browser):

Gmail Mute

by Sdkaaa on Nov.04, 2009, under ICT

I recently discovered a feature in Gmail (Google mail) that is the muting of a thread of emails.

An excellent feature in Gmail is the thread view of emails conversations. Once such thread starts bothering you, or becomes uninteresting you have the option to archive any future messages in Gmail by simply hitting the m key (mute key) that is of course if you have enabled the shortcut keys from the settings menu:

Additional key shortcuts can be found here.

In short you can find shortcuts like “c” to compose a new message, “/” to search, “n” for next message, guess “p” is for what? “o” to open the current message, “e” to archive, “s” to star a message, “r” to reply, “a” to reply to all, “f” to forward, “z” to undo and the list goes on. Don’t forget “m” to mute the conversation :)

There are also combined keys for you to explore here.

These keys will save you a lot of time if you choose to use them…
